Unfortunately, the main roles are not equal to each other, which diminishes the otherwise spectacular and high-quality production. Lynch has no nuance, it’s just a high bar that Redmayne has set. A more experienced actor might have achieved a more believable counter/adversary character needed to challenge the Jackal. All in all, the story is a viable adaptation. The character development works in a way, although some things are left open in the main characters’ narratives, but that could be desirable. The locations, the varied interactions, and Redmayne’s delivery of language and character changes really add a special layer to the story. The barometer of deception is on the whole time in the background . I look forward to seeing how Se01 ends and how the quality is maintained or improved in Se02. Let’s hope Lynch is less forced and gives a more nuanced performance to try and get to know Redmayne. If he does, Se02 could be quite promising.
